Here are a few local favorites:

Jockey Cap:   Located in Fryeburg on Route 302, approximately one mile from downtown Fryeburg, this short 15 minute hike to the top of this landmark will reap hikers a fine reward.   Atop the “cap” you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view.   A range finder, erected in honor of Arctic explorer Admiral Robert E. Peary will help you identify all the surrounding peaks; over thirty can be seen!

Sabattus Mountain:  Located off Route 5 in the Town of Lovell, this ¾ hour, 1 mile round trip is a pleasure during any season.  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the spectacular views from the ledges at the top.

Pleasant Mountain:  Located just west of Moose Pond in Bridgton, just off Route 302.  This 150-vertical foot mountain takes approximately 3 hours with a distance of 3 ½ miles.  Views from the summit include Moose Pond, Kezar Pond and Lake Lovewell Pond, the Presidentials in New Hampshire and Carter Dome.

Evans Notch:  There are numerous trails in this region of the White Mountain National Forest.  Refer to a White Mountain map or guide to find these beautiful hikes.   Here are just a few:

Diana’s Baths are a must see!  Diana’s Baths lie along Lucy Brook in Bartlett and is fed from Big Attitash Mountain.   During the summer the baths are a great place for children and grown-ups alike to enjoy the tranquility of nature, and explore the many rocks, ledges, cascading falls and pools in the brook.  While in this area be sure to visit Cathedral Ledge, Whitehorse Ledge and Echo Lake State Park, all located a few miles of Diana’s Baths.
